Fuji is truly postcard-perfect!

I had a great day trip to Mt. Fuji and Hakone. I didn’t expect Mt. Fuji to look exactly like the postcards, but it really does. The air up there is so crisp and fresh, and the views are incredible. My favorite part of the day was stopping at Lake Ashi and taking photos at the famous red Torii gate. It’s one of those spots you always see online, and it’s even more impressive in real life. The bus ride was comfortable, and the guide spoke very good English. The whole day was well organized, relaxing, and full of great photo stops. A really nice break from busy Tokyo.

Hakone day trip is worth it!

Great tour from start to finish. The Hakone Ropeway was amazing, you float right over the valley with Mt. Fuji, Lake Ashi, and the steam from Owakudani all in one view. The Lake Ashi cruise was beautiful with calm water, clean air, and perfect Fuji photo spots from the deck. The buffet lunch was tasty, with plenty of local dishes. The bullet train back to Tokyo was the best ending. It’s so fast and smooth that we were back in about 30 minutes. Totally recommend this tour!

A beautiful day in Nikko

We had a very nice day trip to Nikko. The forests were beautiful, and the waterfalls were a real highlight. The famous red bridge was the perfect background for photos. Our guide was excellent, very knowledgeable, and gave us great advice on the best sights to see, including quiet spots we wouldn’t have found on our own. We were traveling with children, so we customized the trip to keep it relaxing and comfortable for the whole family. It worked perfectly, and we really appreciated the flexibility. Highly recommended.

PRO TIP

At Toshogu Shrine in Nikko, everyone naturally points their cameras at the famous “Three Wise Monkeys”. However, the entrance to the inner shrine stairs features a tiny, easily missed wooden carving of a sleeping cat. Look directly above the gateway corridor before you start climbing the steps.

FAQ - Day trips from Tokyo

Is it necessary to book a day trip from Tokyo in advance?

It’s best to reserve your Tokyo day trip in advance, as popular tours can sell out fast and last-minute spots are not always available. Day trips are busiest during cherry blossom season, Golden Week, autumn weekends, and summer holidays.

How long is a typical day trip from Tokyo?

Most day trips last 8 to 11 hours, depending on the destination and traffic. Trips to Mount Fuji or Nikko can be a bit longer, while Kamakura and Hakone are usually shorter.

How do I get to Kawaguchiko Station from Tokyo using public transport?

You can reach Kawaguchiko Station easily from Tokyo by public transport. Many travelers start from Shinjuku Station, where JR trains and highway buses go directly to the Mt. Fuji area.

Can I visit Mount Fuji and Hakone on the same day on a Tokyo day tour?

Yes, many tours combine Mount Fuji, Lake Kawaguchi, and Hakone in one day. It’s a busy schedule, but a great option if you want classic views and a relaxing lake cruise.

Will I see Mount Fuji clearly?

Mount Fuji's visibility changes with the weather. Winter offers the clearest views, while summer can be cloudy. Morning views are often better than afternoons.

Are day trips from Tokyo suitable for families with kids?

Absolutely. Hakone, Kamakura, and Lake Kawaguchi offer easy walks, views, museums, and fun activities for children.

Do I need cash for the Tokyo day trip?

It’s a good idea to carry some yen, especially for small shops, snack stalls, and temples. Larger restaurants and souvenir stores accept cards.

What should I wear on a day trip from Tokyo?

Wear comfortable shoes and check the weather before you go. Mountain areas can be cooler than Tokyo, even in summer.

Are Tokyo day trips wheelchair-friendly?

Some are, but not all. Hakone and Nikko have uneven paths, while Mount Fuji’s 5th Station is more accessible. Always check accessibility details before booking.

Can I use the Japan Rail Pass for day trips from Tokyo?

The Japan Rail Pass works on many routes. You can use the JR Yokosuka Line to reach Kamakura and the JR Chuo Line from Tokyo Station toward Mt. Fuji (to Otsuki). The JR Pass does not cover the Keio Line because it’s a private railway. While the pass is useful, planning trains, transfers, and non-JR sections can be confusing. Many travelers find it easier and stress-free to join a tour instead.

Is English spoken during the trips from Tokyo?

Most tours offer English-speaking guides, and many also provide audio guides in several languages.

What other interesting tours can I do in Tokyo?

Tokyo has many fun tours beyond the usual sightseeing spots. With our Tokyo Tickets, you can choose from a wide variety of experiences. You can ride the Tokyo Hop-On Hop-Off Bus for an easy overview of the city. Visit Mt. Takao, one of the most popular easy hiking spots near Tokyo. For beautiful views, take a Tokyo Boat Tour around Tokyo Bay. If you prefer something active, a Tokyo Bike Tour is a great way to explore quiet neighborhoods. And for a truly unforgettable experience, you can book a Tokyo Helicopter Tour and enjoy Tokyo from above.

PRO TIP

Kamakura is famous for its sweet potato treats, and Murasaki Imo (purple sweet potato) ice cream is widely considered a must-try regional specialty.
